Okay, here's one:
I've been up on a roof for most of the day, it's a colorbond roof and a fairly steep pitch, around 35degrees and I can just walk on the roof without having to walk on the screw heads. It's a sunny day, not a cloud in the sky no rain, drizzle, sleet, snow or other form of precipitation when something happens which soon has me sliding down the roof, I just don't have enough grip anymore. It's not anything I or anyone else has done. What has just happened?
Mick
It's the hole fairies. They have been pushing all the screws back out of the holes and coating the roof in bees wax. Of course, the bees wax mixed with the excessive heat that is being generated through the roof will cause the whole danged mess to become sorta real slippery like kinda thing and will when mixed with the rubber of your melting boots cause you to go ****-over-tit till you fall off.
You were wearing Volleys weren't you Mick? ;)
Cheers,
P
Ive seen roofers paint that red pvc primer ( the stuff they prime storm water pipes with ) onto their soles to geta grip on tin, they swear that it works.
Just let it dry first.

As for the question.
Bird crap?
Sweat?
You've stepped across the roof ridge onto the slope that's now in shade (which would be the eastern side). It's sufficiently humid for the temperature differential to cause condensation to form on the (now) cooler surface. You've lost traction on the damp surface and you're doing the old downhill skier bit. Keep your knees bent! If you can manage a Stem Christie you might be able to pull up just short of the gutter! :D

It could also be that you have a terrible wind problem up there. A sudden push from the rear will get you moving at speed.
Best stuff is Belt Grip, used for conveyors, and it comes in a spray can too.Quote:

Close enough Col,
when the sun goes down condensation forms within minutes, well it does around here anyway. Bob, I killed all the hole fairies mate, and now none of them is game to come within a cooee of me. BitingMidge, actually I stopped wearing volleys a few years ago as the sole formulation has changed and they're no longer as grippy as they were. I now wear my "Steel Blue" work boots everywhere as they have more grip than the new Volleys and are the most comfortable shoes I own. Anybody needing to wear safety boots annd having a comfort problem needs to check these out. And no, no affiliation (but I wished I owned some shares :p ). Your go Col.

Winston Churchill was pretty good at the put-down remark, However, he wasn't responsible for the following:-
On being told that President Coolidge had died, this person remarked:
"How can they tell?"
And in a book review, wrote:-
"This book should not be lightly cast aside, it should be hurled with great force."
So if Churchill wasn't responsible, who was?
Rodney Marsh?
:)
