Top Gear Australia gets 2nd Series
SYDNEY: SBS has given Top Gear Australia the green light for a second series, despite viewer criticism and a drop off in ratings.
Despite harsh comments from Australian audiences on various blogs citing a lack of chemistry between the hosts, UK host-with-the-most Jeremy Clarkson has praised the Aussie version, even giving the new hosts the thumbs up.
“Massive congratulations from the Top Gear boys in England on your Australian version," Clarkson said in a statement released by SBS. "We’re loving it, even though your funny accents make you hard to understand. And Warren the cartoonist - his face underwater was an absolute peach.”
After the premiere episode attracted an audience of just under a million, weeks two and three have seen viewer numbers drop to the high 600,000s.
By SBS standards this is still a solid audience, although numbers are about a third behind what the original UK series was pulling in.
The first Australian series still has a further five episodes to screen, but viewers won’t have to wait long for the second series, which could be on air as early as 2009.
Matt Campbell, director of television & online at SBS, said Clarkson’s comments reinforced the general consensus at SBS that the series is a winner.
“We’ve received the blessing from the godfather of the brand. The praise from the Top Gear UK mother ship gives SBS and the Freehand Production team added enthusiasm as we continue to work on Series One and begin pre-production for Series Two.”
Like Woodwould, there's better things to do than watch it even if there's nothing else on a Monday night at 7:30.
Good news week starts at 8.30 unfortunately. Luckily I have a pvr and don't watch anything live anymore.
"Keep the little fella with the beard, get a new host and would love to see a smokin hot woman in the other role who knows cars and drives them hard. Still a bit clunky and scripted but moving forward."
Well my ladyfriend knows about cars and is one of the fastest drivers I've ever seen, but I don't know how many other people would think she's "smokin hot". I do, and I notice other blokes taking an interest, but we ain't exactly 20 year olds...:D
Maybe Sabine from the pommy show ? although getting her to emmigrate when she lives next door to the nurburg ring...
Missing this sort of thing

I'm not wasting time watching it.
till they add a woman presenter. and drop the dead legs
its a very poor copy of the real Top Gear.
LIVE TOPGEAR UK live in Sydney http://www.topgearlive.com.au/ :2tsup:
This is best viewed with your PC surround sound or Home theatre. Fast broadband is better.
I saw it on the telly but its worth another look. Awesome is the word.
Friends...I give you the http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/veyron-vmax
Enjoy
I'm gonna try that in my truck tomorrow....
Was that Wongo I spotted in the crowd on tonights Top Gear  only lives down the road so easy walk to the studio.
well tonights performance wasnt too bad but currently downloading the original topgear new series that screened in uk sunday night yeah
Thats because they were behaving more like blokes who now know each other and Aussie's.
You can also catch more old UK Top Gear on the new Foxtel BBC Knowledge Channel 619
Jerremy has been injured Top-Gear-presenter-Jeremy-Clarkson-crashes-truck-wall-high-speed-stunt
OK, for those of us who have real lives and therefore no Poxtel stuff, HOW do we get to see the real Top Gear?
BTW, I thought last nights' Oz version a little better but still overscripted, lousy jokes and the 4wd thing was bullschit
All the Top Gear you want is here
G'day,
Okay it will be a pointless exercise but it might, maybe, you never know make SBS wake up to the fact that Aussie Top Gear sux, they won't be pulling it but maybe they'll give the 3 wannabes a kick up the date and tell them to improve their game.

:2tsup:
just finished watching second episode of the new series of topgearUK :2tsup:they really do put the aussies to shame:~
If they were both on at the same time, I'd watch the Aussie one now. I think that as they settle the show is improving. I just want to see the Stig do a lap in a Leyland P76.

Please sign it.
or they will make another load of rubbish.
Last night's episode was, in my opinion, the worst to-date. It was one long embarrassment, relieved only by the closing credits.
Yeah, thought it was starting to improve, but the last one went back to the bottom.
:woot: The Real Top Gear back next week:england:
So reading the posts here the consensus is that Pom's do it way better than Aussie's:D
Do I dare wonder what the USA one went like:roll: do I care
Ok I did a search and seems USA Top Gear is dying http://www.savetopgearusa.com/drupal/?q=blog/3 also on the same Blog page announcement that a Russian Top Gear is to be made.
Anybody catch last monday nights episode. I turned off after the sendup of the ad where they were bouncing things off a trampoline. The car Vs. jet ski race to Portsea was a wank, don't know who won, don't care. What a load of rubbish.
Funny, TBO and I both agreed that it was the best episode to-date. I think the trumpeter is infinitely less noxious than blondie-no-brain was. The humour is infantile compared to the original masters', but it was just watchable - IMO.
Was an improvement nice to see the up market car given the stick agree the wave runner bit was crap they killed the "What were they thinking wall" :2tsup:
The old commercial for Holden was still as bad as when they made it.
Not one word about Ford or Holden :D hoooorrray
They'll never get to UK Top Gears level.
Just as cringe worthy as The Footy Show, now all it needs is some scandal
I watched two or three episodes last season, and thought it stunk, but thought that I would give it another try on Monday night.
That unfortunately is one hour of my life that I will never get back!!
No more for me thanks. :yuk:
I aldo agree that James Morrison is a valuable addition. They are never going to be as good as the UK version, but will still show some cool sheyet.
I think I detect some cultural cringe. :oo:
James Morrison will never live this rubbish down.
What these guys should do, before filming commences, is get pi$$ed. Loosen up a bit. Everything about the program seems too contrived and stage managed. There is very little, or no, spontaneity as there is in the pommie version. They try to hard too emulate the poms. Its a different culture here and SBS has lost sight of that. The British seem to have tapped into a format and the right personalities to give TopGear UK a genuine global appeal. Punchy, humourous, informative and above all else, credibile hosts.
The guy with the depressed bottom lip and ratty mo needs a head transplant - has a great face for radio. Get him off.
If I was an car manufacturer I wouldn't let my marque anywhere near this lot of untalented chardy quaffers.
Rant Off.
I lacks a bit of punch, but it's not that bad. Jeremy Clarkson's a pretty difficult character to emulate. He's a charismatic fella. Don't you agree though that it's something to watch while they're making the next round of UK episodes?
This guy would be my first pick as main presenter for Oz Top Gear. He's a natural in front of the camera, he can drive AND he knows what he's talking about.
