Jake, your post has been moved here with the replies. https://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=47282
It was getting way off topic.
jeez Sorry .....just erase it all if its easier. I was just having a winge.
No problems with moving it Jake. It is an interesting point.
Appears it was automatically closed when the post were moved to the new thread. It's not closed any more ;)
My apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I just stumbled on it and it seems the best place to sort out a niggling suspicion of mine.
Two of my posts were deleted some time ago. Did not think too much about the first, there was some server problem at the time. When the second occurred, the coincidence seemed too much and I asked for a clarification. He confirmed that the deletion was deliberate, but no explanation followed.
Don't think that "left" or "right" bias is an issue. My posts were so tame and meant as humorous (maybe my sense of humour is terrible, ok :D ) that to give them a "right" or "left" label would have been really pushing it.
And as regards breaching forum rules or any law, believe me: in a quarter of a century working as a State Government auditor, it has been hammered into me that anything I say or do must stand up in any court of law.
If anything, the issue is about policies that have come to be associated with one or the other side of politics. The disturbing thought is: were my posts deleted because they contained the words "Guantanamo bay" and "US Army Colonel"? In other words, is this an example of our Government being excessively zealous in searching for the remotest sign of subversion?
We know that ASIO checks chat rooms... are Neil and held to ransom by them?
Even if they were, they would be sworn to secrecy in the name of "the public interest" anyway, so their response is not the point here.
But it will be very interesting to see where this thread takes us, won't it?:)
I assume ASIO (or Neil and ) will leave this post alone to see how many of you will be coaxed into admitting that you are undercover terrorists (or to prove their absence of bias and constraints)...:p
This is straight from the Forum Rules that have been in place for a very long time.
There would have been a reason and especially if was the one that deleted it.Quote:

I gotta agree with the green fellow here.. and that doesnt happen often. We have done this to death, this place has one of the easiest going bunch of moderators anywhere this side of an anarcist website (and sometimes I think this is an anarchist website:U)
Leave them alone, I have had threads and post deleted, and they deserved it, every one of them... some the mods contacted me others just dissapeared, but either way they were not appropriate and what the mods say goes (its their sandpit not ours)
Mods close the thread.. Please
Shall I order in more pizza and another slab????
I reckon I'll start a poll on it...
Who reckons they have had the most posts deleted?
Who gives a rat's?
PS. I reckon Felder lost the most posts when all the friday threads were deleted but nobody can beat Stoppers. :D
The more the enemies, the more the glory!:D
Seriously, guys, I expected better contributions... hit the ball, not the man!
And, Rowan, is your point that:
a) the moderator does not need a reason
or
b) there must have been a reason
:?
Make up your mind, happy to debate either point...:)
BTW, I hope it is clear that I agree with the need for monitoring and am happy with the forum... notwithstanding the small percentage of unhelpful members that can not be avoided!
I must be up there.Quote:

Do we have stats?
And, while we are philosophising: I just noticed, Grunt, that your humorous take on alcohol is just an example of a universal principle:
Law I: A human must not waste anything or, through inaction, cause anything to be wasted
Law II: A human must, when requested, acquire more of anything for itself and others except where such orders would conflict with the first law
Law III: A human must make good use of anything as much as possible as long as such endeavour does not conflict with the first or second law.
The point does not need debating, but since...
The rules state that we do not have to have a reason to delete a thread or post, but if was the one to delete your post then he wouldn't have done so without a reason.
Really get over it. You are not doing yourself any good trying to argue this point. If you really think that the moderation here is too much then go and try one of the American forums and post there. Then you will know over moderation!
Aha! See how correct expression makes all the difference?:D
See above. Wasn't I clear enough in expressing the principle that I am happy with the quality of moderation and that this is not the point? With Cliff et al., I do not give a rat's about my posts being deleted, that was only the starting point for asking a legitimate question. So far it looks like everybody is too scared to address the question.Quote:

F&E,
Here is something constructive. There is now a sub-forum devoted entirely to fishing. Go get 'em, tiger!
Yep, this is a fishing expedition.:D From you, though, I was expecting more... I thougth you had the b***s to address the issue.:)
Impressive. I did get one for a post in the Orange Room.Quote:
Maybe, but I recon I'm the only one to get an infringment notice because of a cooking thread!:D
This is the second time in as many days that someone has questioned whether or not I have blokely bits. Linden Hardy had a shot (in jest, I believe), and now F&E. I'm beginning to feel emasculated (look it up).
The moderation here is the free market at its best. Neil owns it and Neil decides. Simple, really. Don't like it? Buggar off. (Not directed at anyone in particular, just a statement of fact.) I've had a few posts deleted, and rightly so. But F&E, you are a sly dog. If I am a possum stirrer (and I am), you are a fisherman of the first water.
If you wish to have a discussion of some depth, open a thread to that effect in the proper sub-forum and I will respond. I am one of those blokes with a high IQ who is so Stupid. I have more education than I can use and so would be glad to slough some of it off on those who can use it.
There are no smilies in this post, becaue I am not smiling. But, again, I am not angry, either, just puzzled. What in the world do you want?
[NB: Kiss this post goodbye, I suppose.]
It would actually be a far better forum if the threads were all wood related.
As for the non-wood stuff, I'd prefer all of it to be moderated out!!
... yes, I sometimes like being provocative.
