Yes XXXX was named XXXX because POOP was already taken, although I think that there is one beer to rival its status and that would be

Pete
So anyways, SawDustJack, what sort of woodworking do you dabble in??
My grandfather always drank KB. I'm sure that's what killed him. Either that, or the shame of drinking KB.:o
We used to reckon that KB stood for KidsBeer because it was so sweet. :p
Do you remember Amber Ale, the mid strength beer brought out by Lion Nathan a few years ago? It was advertised as being kinder to you person.
There was a big sign as you left Sydney International Airport with a picture of the beer, and the slogan; "Amber Ale. The New, Kinder Beer".
The German tourists lost their heads over that, 'kinder' meaning "for kids".:D
Come on now, a lot of Queenslanders love their XXXX. We can't ALL be stupid, can we? http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon12.gif This state has produced pollies such as Joh and Pauline, and we're the only ones who can see through daylight saving, and despite the fact that it's stinking hot and we all suffer from skin cancers, we attract southerners here by calling it "The Sunshine State". Leave our bear .... bere ... bier .... xxxx alone.
Is it just me or is might this be an alternative Friday thead in disguise?
We will know later if the mods close it?:D :D :D
Sorry mistook you for the other Felder, hang on this is the other Benny????
Is it Friday yet?
Leave XXXX out if this...in fact being a Friday, I will soon be enjoying a couple at the Farmer's Arms.
Who was it that said American beer is like making love in a canoe?:D
Cheers,
Well and truly highjacked. Good job youse blokes. Now it's Friday over here--should I start another thread? :D :D
Nup , Still want to know if you guys do infact drink your own local brews or is it imported "boutique" beers like Fosters.
Okay, here goes. By far the largest sellers are the domestic beers like Budweiser and Millers. They are, of course, horsep*ss, but cheap.
We do have a great number of very nice small brewery beers like Samuel Adams and Iron City which enjoy a following. Most of them have limited distribution areas. There are also local brew pubs that sell beer made on the premises.
Imported beers are popular as well, led by Mexican brews such as Corona and Tecate. I am pleased to say that Fosters, while sold here, is really not all that popular. They had a big ad blitz about ten years ago with the slogan: "Fosters, it's Australian for beer." Evidently that didn't work, because they gave up and are settling for a small niche, selling mostly the larger, single tins of beer rather than the 6- or 12-packs.
The local stores have a plethora of choices: German and Dutch beers, Guiness, Japanese beers, etc. At the end of the day, it is personal taste, innit? Since I have traveled Europe extensively, I often suspect that the beer they export to the States is not the same beer they sell domestically. At least it doesn't taste the same to me.
Personally, I don't drink that much beer but prefer the German ones over others. The Mexican dark beers are also good.
The market for beer in the U.S. is huge, so naturally every brewer takes a run at it.
Thanks Bob,
Up until at least the 90's Bud in the States was a different brew to that of Europe because of that copyright/ownership issue. That has probably been settled by now.
Just visited the Coors Web site. They now owns Grolsch, Carling, Bass and Worthington ..the poms must be crying in their beers.
Its funny that you have to enter you birth date to prove your 21 before you can look at their site...come on now! Its not as if its pornographic is it? :)
And what is it with a 21 age limit anyway? You can be sent off to war and get your a$$ blown off but you come home and cant have a beer. Very cruel.:(
EDIT Sorry Bob just realised I put the wrong quote up top.. should have been about the difference between domestic and same brand imported.
Speaking of beer. Look at the lengths that brewers will go to trying to get you to drink their product.

Well I C I got you chaps talking beer .. I gave up the stuff myself after I got out of the Navy after 12 years .. Took in my share ..
Some Dark Ales in England were my favorite .. You guys had some nastee crap yourselves , as I recall .. We have some nastee beer here as well .. Budweiser is the awfullest horse swill ever invented .. The best cheep beer ?? Old Milwaukee , or PBR ( redneck , white socks , and Blue Ribbon Beer ) ..
Someone asked who shot JFK , easy one there , The Mob ..
What kinda wood werking ?? With wood of course ...
Built a 17 foot canoe a few years back , cedar stripped with fiberglass , and a matching set of paddles .. Never Again .. Was a task .. Course , if you are short on clamps for wood werk projects , build a canoe , you'll have plenty before its over ..
Other than that , I repair furniture for my wife who sells the stuff .. I get lots of green hardwood , from a little sawmill , all first cuts , butts , or slabs , whatever you may call them .. For a song , a pickup , oopps ute load at a time , a dollar a board .. Let it dry for a couple months , straighten it up , and do whatever comes to my mind ..
We have a beer here that is pretty good: Crown Lager.:) Unfortunately it's a little on the expensive side, but I for one can't fault it. Not long ago someone produced a beer called Blondie, now that was bad ....
Fair go, Bleedin'. When I was in the military the age was 18. The reasoning was as you suggested, if you can be shot, you can have a stubbie. The law changed sometime in the 1970s due to a namby-pamby government full of do-gooders who wanted to protect us from ourselves. So they lowered the voting age from 21 to 18, but raised the drinking age from 18 to 21. They got both #### backwards. :(
Like most such generally unpopular laws, it is essentially unenforceable, so our university kids drink beer and everyone turns away unless there is an accident or something and then it's hand-wringing time.
That law depends on the particular state as well .. AFAIK all hard likker everywhere is a 21 age minimum .. Here in Alabama beer is 21 as well , tobbacco is 19 .. In the 70's and 80's in Virginia , you could have what was called 3.2 beer at 18 ( 3.2% alcohol ) , and everything else at 21 .. IIRC , also if you were in the military , you could drink at the base at 18 , even if the state said 21 ..
Bob yawl still got the green dot or green front stores ???
Well ya has to consider who we had in office back then , even if he was from Jawga ..
Yes we do. Actually they are Red Dot stores. The Red Dot stands for sunup and sundown. The story is, after the Civil War (sometimes referred to around here as the Late Unpleasantness), they (the Yankees) wanted to keep the black people from getting liquor, so the stores were open from sunup until sundown (thus the Red Dot, signifying the sun). Since blacks worked until sundown in the fields, it would be too late for them to purchase liquor and "run wild." :o :o It's embarrassing, but true. :o :o
Even today in South Carolina, liquor store hours can change from day to day, to coincide with sunup and sundown. :o
