Yes. I have. It's good because you get access to the FWW archive. Also, you can read the mag online. Which is a good thing when your print copy goes missing.

Half your luck. We have three newsagents and none of them stock ANY woodworking magazines. I'll have to wait for mine to arrive.Quote:
I went out and bought a copy of the latest mag at the local newsagent
I received the generic response from tauntan offering an extra on subsription for the missing one.......trouble is I have only one newsagent in town with not one WW mag. in stock. Can only get WW mags on subsciption, will have too keep waiting.......
How did you contact them?
I have no reply for the 2 messages I sent them. I did one through their online email and the other one on [email protected].
I didn't realise that I hadn't received my copy of the issue until I saw it in the newsagent yesterday. Have emailed Taunton and am awaiting a reply (probably the same reply as everyone else). I wouldn't be too thrilled about the standard offer to extend the subscription by a month. I know it's not much but newsagent prices are about double the subscription cost. That's why I subscribed in the first place. Anyway, if it's a just a once-off situation, I'll probably accept because of the hassle of arguing with them or waiting the 10-12 weeks extra.
By the way, their email interface doesn't appear to have been too well thought out. It has as mandatory fields the zip code and the US province to be entered. It didn't appear to want to accept my Aussie postcode so I inserted Taunton's Connecticut zip code. Nor did it accept their own selection of "Australia - New South Wales" for the province, but accepted "other". I had to tell them the correct details in the body of the message. What a balls-up.
Cheers
Hmm, well it is a bit US-centric as you would expect but I didn't have any trouble entering my address using the fields on the form. Don't select anything in State (ignore the red aster), select Australia - New South Wales and enter your postcode. Worked for me the 3 or 4 times I've used it.
I hate to say this but the following edition (Nov-Dec) is now available on-line.
...................still waiting!
Silent
I did try the "Australia - NSW" choice but it still rejected it and came up with the little pop-up that the field was mandatory. Never mind. Despite all of this, I am thinking about subscribing to the on-line service anyway. Feedback seems to be OK on this and $15US isn't going to break the bank.
Cheers
Like many here, I have also missed my #186 issue, so fired off an email to Taunton. I received the now customary "but one locally and we'll extend your sub by an issue" response.
I did take that offer up, but do wonder why there wasn't some type of logistics trial before the new supplier was appointed...
Great you all received an emial. I wrote to them 3 times and no email back.
From what I can gather, nobody in OZ received the FWW #186. Why do they not just redo the whole OZ shipment instead of handling each one separately ???. They resent mine on 12 Sept and still no mag.

Maybe we should direct their notice to this thread. If I knew how to, I would do it.
It's unfortunate and probably not their fault, but as a goodwill gesture it would be a very worthwhile PR exercise. If I were Tauntons, I would have to be very wary about the harm this could do to their marketing in Australia, that is, if we are significant enough to them I suppose.
Received this reply, this morning from Taunton;

Well I'm still waiting for them to turn up in the newsagents in Mackay!!
Why not ask for temporary on-line access as compensation. You can download articles as PDF and print off or even save.
Just received some spam from FWW that contains this:

They're ignoring you, Wongo. I hear they are all cat lovers at FWW. ;)
Received this reply this morning - I also opted not to buy here and extend my subscription - I hope this is not a sign of what is going to happen with the Tools & Shops extra magazine - like mine was last year.
Thank you for your reply. This e-mail is to confirm that we have
received your reply and will follow your instructions to replace FWW
#186. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you

My FWW arrived today - no e-mails necessary. It seems to have been posted in the Dominican Republic !!! Yeah, its the issue with Garry R. pouting at his router bits.
Anyhow, there seems to be a new issue out on Taunton's web site - I wonder how long this one will take to get here?
:D :D Oh dear..... At one time mine was comming "Deuchepost".
I know the american postal system is a little strange but how can it be more effective to ship something to germany then back to australia.

cheers
If you do read this thread Mr Taunton, please note that the number of views at the time of this post is 1,600 which is a sure sign that not just the posters have an interest in the outcome!
Cheers,
P;)
Shippers pay for priority but also have standard space paid for. If they can get the item closer via a circuitous route utilising space already paid for they will. It may be due to backloading to clear the load from a high traffic area to better use under utilised routes with space available (load sharing).
There is some very fancy new routing software under development that will move items around the globe in very strange, but fast, ways. eg if an item can go from Atlanta USA to Melbourne via 6 points in 8 days, this software will investigate all other routes and may utilise 10 points to deliver in 3 days. It will also review its options at each via node. The maths and computational power involved is very scary.
I can think of three possibilities
1) Australia and Austria are just different ways of spelling the name of that country south of Germany and east of Switzerland — aren't they?
2) Apart from Canada, almost all International FWW subscriptions are in Europe. Air shipping to Germany is dirt cheap 'cause you can buy the spare cargo space on the regular US military flights to Weisbarden (near Frankfurt), so all O/S orders are shipped to Europe for posting
3) Taunton's contractor uses a service like Surface Air Lifted mail (flown across oceans and driven across land). Again fly all international orders to Germany, truck the Aussie ones to Singapore and then fly them to Oz.
What I want to know is if Canadian subscribers get their mags posted in Germany

I dunno, a few million items move around the globe now and a few thousand get lost. With increasing use of RFID you can track the item and tell when it goes astray. The new software will simply choose the fastest route, even detecting when airports are closed due to weather and re-route around them. If it goes astray, the s/w can route it back via the fastest route.
