Wongo 4 : possums 0

Had a mate who bought a house near a national park about 4 years age & of course his SHMBO wanted the fire place opened so she could have open fires, so he removed the cover off the top of the chimney, couple of nights later much noise etc possum had come down said chimney into lounge room , was finally chased outside but to this day some of the little soot markes still remain, BTW chimney is again sealed:D

On the other hand my SHMBO bought me a pet possum who lives on the front verandah and is no problem at all:rolleyes:

It's a bit like those new mouse traps that catch them alive. It says on the box "release the mouse blah blah blah". As if I would go to the trouble of catching a mouse just to let it go. It goes on to say "if you must dispose of the mouse, kill it humanely blah blah blah". Now that's more like it.

Is that the plastic one that claims to kill humanely, gently strangles them for about 20 minutes, at least the other ones are quick, and painful if one goes off while setting it.

Nope. It's a blue plastic 'tunnel' about 2" square. It has about a 15 degree bend about halfway along. There's a cap on one end that you open to place the bait, and a door at the other. You bait it and set it on the floor with the door open - it stands on a couple of legs. The end with the bait sticks up in the air by virtue of the bend. When the mouse goes inside and climbs to the end where the bait is, its weight makes the bait end drop and the door end lift up and the door swings shut. He has nice feed of peanut butter for a while and then it's off for a little swim.

Hi all,

On the possum thing,
I had the Possum Meister in several weeks ago and they put a little one way door in the roof (like Macy's for possums) then baited for rats as apparently they eat possum poop. Anyway, the possums have gone, but while there is no smell anywhere, we've been inundated by flies. I've used 3 cans of fly spray in as many weeks and killed over 200, not counting those the Cat scanner devoured. I'm starting to feel like Be'elzebub.

I'll put money on a dead rat in the roof, happened to us once and about a billion flies came into the bathroom through the ceiling fan.
Laying in bed and heard a strange noise, opened the bathroom door to be confronted by a huge black cloud.
Open door slightly and release half a can of MOrtein or whatever and we had a three inch thick carpet of dead flies.
Our new ceiling fan is sealed so this won't be a problem again.

You'll need to find a Python Poo Proof Provider. Try 'P' in the Yellow Pages.

I eat and partially chew corn and my snakes only swallow mice. Snakes do not chew their food.

A close inspection by Scott should reveal whole fragments of mice bones with no teeth marks and not partially chewed corn.

The mice were swallowed by the snake 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Unless the mice had eaten corn prior to being swallowed.....:confused:

Well we had our first possum free night. That stuff smells bloody awful though but hey what do I expect. It is poo afterall. :D

How much can a python poo a day mate? Coz we might be able to get something going.

I've been pondering and I now have a question to pose,

If you place python poo upon your porch to persuade possums to p*ss off promptly, would the same python poo provide a perfume of provacation to other pythons in the precinct?

Translation: Is python poop a similar solution to cane toads? Sure, you get rid of one pest, but gain another?? Or are snakes more territorial and wouldn't come near the stench of anothers poopy?

Maybe they don't like possum poo.:p

Snakes are very efficient with their digestion. They can go almost 2 years without eating however mine are fed about 5 small mice every fortnight and they only poo once or twice every fortnight.

You can buy the mice frozen from pet shops in various sizes - pinkies, hoppers etc. Obviously you thaw them out and heat them up a bit before offering them to your snakes. The snakes strike at the mouse, coil themselves around the mouse and swallow them head first. It is quite a spectacular event with the snakes striking and coiling at the speed of lightning.

They are generally solitary creatures apart from during the breeding season of course.

Let’s not get too excited about the results we need to monitor the results over a much longer period of time – it is possible there was happy hour at the local possum pub last night or perhaps a rather explicit Big Possum episode on Possum television last night.

Perhaps the smell of cat cooking in Wongo’s oven also put them off.:eek:

Keep us informed of the results Scott perhaps the possums can tolerate the smell but prefer not to hang around if there is somewhere else to go.

I think you need to be scientific about it Scott which means that you have to set up a control using a different poo.

The question is though, which poo to use? ;)

Now this poo situation has possibilities. The worlds most expensive coffee is made from beans that have passed through a cat like animal.
