Clinton, I hear what you're saying but there is definitely a country influence. Just listening now to 'Sink or Swim', the song about "when I die, bury me in my home town" or somethang, complete with pedal steel guitar is just about pure c&w!!:) And the fact they spend most of their year based in Nashville touring the c&w circuit...
They do it well though! Seen them a couple of times, most recently at the old Empire Theatre in Toowoomba, great concert too.

I'd actually call the Waifs more Australian Contemporary Folk than country. And Im thinking more about their content than their tunes.

= any song played on commercial radio within three years of its release, or that has been on the playlist of commercial radio for 30 or more years.

= any song that falls into the category of 'easy listening'

= any song/album/compilation/group promoted on TV

aaaaaand....if I ever hear another Beatles song, it will be too soon. (cover versions by Leibach excepted, because they seem to really annoy Beatles fans.)

Right, I'm off to listen to some Severed Heads and some Jesus & Mary Chain just to get nasty commercial radio tunes out of my skull!!

Agree, Beatles sux:) Abby road is ok if your in a mellow mood and White Album is the only one i can listen to anytime, they are so over exposed its annoying. But Jesus and Mary Chain kick ass big time. First time i heard Psychocandy it blew me away and i still love it, and ten years later they bought out 'Stoned and Dethroned' became a fav of mine, Shane MacGowan from The Pogues is on that. Must go and slip it in the CD now :)

I quite like the Chain's Automatic, as well.

Psychocandy + Yum Cha MP3 player + Sennheiser HD212Pro headphones were my christmas shopping armour last year. All those dopey "and if it snows, we'll have a slaying time tonight" songs played at the shopping centres were making me want to indulge in a bit of slaying myself.

My Adcom GFA555 and Vaf DC-X's are in storage at the moment, so I just have to make do with what's available!
