Hi Peter,
Thanks for a cracking afternoon & evening - rain and all
It was good to meet some familiar and some new fellow woodies.
I guess that you'll be posting the usual "evidence" :D
Cheers!
Yes thanks Peter.
Good to put a few names to faces too.
I hope you enjoyed your stay Jules and Doug.
Al :)
By early afternoon all was in readines. The work was done and I sat down to have a quiet drink and relax until the guests came.
Whilst having this drink the heavens opened up and the forecast thunderstorm started.
Although most of our bbq area is properly roofed, because of the need of maintenance and opening windows there is a sleeper walkway and small openings in front of the windows. Somehow with the amount of rain it found a way in from the walkway and it was dripping all over the seating area.
In despair we resolved not to cancel, but cook outside and somehow fit everyone inside for the gala event of meeting Doug and Jules.
Fortunately the rains stopped about 4.30 pm and after half an hour the area was cleaned up and dried out just in time for Jules and Steve (Auld Bassoon), who kindly picked her up from Moorabbin and who were quickly followed by Chris ( Waldo) arrival.
brought Doug, who had a day's private turning tution by as the people of his Club demo didn't turn up for they had put the wrong date in their diaries:p :p :p (Is that worth a greenie ?), followed with Al ( Ozwinner) and Libby ( Mrs. Ozwinner).
A lovely time was held, great to meet Doug and Jules and catch up with the rest, and later when the rain started again we adjourned inside for a while.
Al brought along some lovely Cedar, which Doug and I shared, and offered me some stuff that hopefully will fix the rain problem, which I'll pick up on Tuesday. Thanks again Al.
I'll post the photos later when my daughter has loaded them to my computer, must get something in return for that education I provided :D for she is a whizz in that.
Peter.
And here are some snapshots of the gathering of woodies.
Photo 1 shows (from l – r) - Chris (Waldo) partially hidden by Steve (Auld Bassoon) and .

A special thanks to Elaine for all the work she has done in making the salads and being the hostess for the evening, especially as she had to go into hospital last weekend and only on Thursday afternoon was able to get out and about.
Peter.
I picked up Doug this morning and we had a short shop-tour and hand planing session. He is now off to Flagstaff station to meet someone else, busy busy...
Good to meet you Doug, pity I missed Jules though. Funny thing though, the house that Doug is staying in is facing Kiwibrucee's workshop!
My apologies for not attending. As I expalined to Jules on Steve's mobile, Meg and I were frantic saving my shed from drowning. It got fairly wet (some parts 2 inches deep) but our efforts saved most of it. It's OK now - just a bit damp but not wet.
It looks like everyone had a good time and I am sorry not have been part of the fun.
Seems like a good time was had by all.
WB - good to see the shed got a cleaning.
Yes, we heard about your misfortune Rob and we commisserated (ever so briefly, mind you :D ) with you. This may have been a sign to spur you into building your new shed.:DQuote:

G'day,
A good few hours spent thanks Sturdee, and thanks too to Elaine. Was a real good evening of sitting back and relaxing with more blokes and women from this great forum. Put some more names to faces.
Hope the shed is drying out OK WoodBorer, haven't seen any planes floating down to my neck of the woods so they must be high and dry. (had a minor bit of flooding of about 7ft into my shed, just had to pull some timber of the floor and she was right)
Great to me some folk down from the home state. And look forward to catching up when you're down next Jules.

G'day,
Sorry DanP, you're outta luck I swear I heard WoodBorer yell out to Meg that he's headed over Waldo's with a car full of gear for safekeeping. Isn't that right Rob? ;)

Well now that i have levered Jools away from her cousin's computer, and i have a chance to post, let me say this has been a fabulous weekend!!!http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gif
Gumby, thanks for inviting jools and me down for lunch on friday. It was a pleasure to meet you, Stuart Lees and DPB.
, Where do i start? You went out of your way to pick us up, take Jools to her comm games training and me to your workshop. I consider it a great privelige to have spent the day with you receiving one on one turning tuition from such an accomplished craftsman and a great teacher. if i was as gifted a student as you are a teacher, i may have learned more on the day. Thanks also for taking me to the bbq at sturdee's then back home. I also feel flattered that you thought enough of jols and me to detour via your home to introduce us to your lovely wife. , you are one of natures true gentlemen and i am still getting over how many things in our background and attitudes that we have in common. You would make a great drinking partner except you dont drinkhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon10.gif.
Sturdee, thanks to you and especially Elaine for organising last nights bbq. it was great to meet you in person as well as auld bassoon, ozwinner and mrs winner and waldo.
Groggy, thanks for a relaxing and educational morning. It was great to sit in your shed and experiment with your handplane collection and check out your other toys this morning. It wasnt such a full-on day as the previous two and that was just what i needed today.
I am still in awe as to how everyone has gone out of their way to help us and i thank everyone, greenies are on their way around as soon as they become available.http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gif.
I thought you might have dropped in to arrest me on the weekend Dan. The additional water was caused this time and last year by a neighbour who after building a new house has not fixed up his backyard. We now get all his water and clay.  :mad:Quote:

Thanks for the offer of looking after the planes but the snakes will need TLC also when I am in gaol for getting our neighbours attention.
The shavings clogged up the washing machine Al, when Meg was spin drying all the towels we used to mop up.:(
Chris, the thunder may have distorted my words.
Anyway, I am hijacking this thread and becoming hot under the collar again.
It looks like Sturdee had a bit of rain too, his shoes look like they are stuck to the wall at the high water mark.
They are there to remind me of my humble dutch background and to remind me of the ever present threat of flooding.:D :D :D Don't forget Rob that the place where I was born and grew up was a whole NINE metres below sea level.Quote:

well we just got home, safe and well. Jools is rapt in what she has achieved for her work at the comm games next month and als on the hospitality we received from forum members over the weekend. thanks again to everyone
G'day,
Great to have met you Doug and Jules.
Back to much better weather I'm sure.
If ever you down again Doug, I might've been quiet, I just take a bit to warm up. The Melbourne weather must have something to do with that I think.
Glad you're both home safe 'n' sound.:)
See you soon Jules.
Anytime mates! :D :DQuote:
