I'll try again.
I think I’m out for this one [emoji3064]
Cheers Matt.
I'd be interested to hear if there was a verdict on which timber to use as the one and only.
Regards
Paul
thanks Lance for hosting todays Zoom meeting. I got in there about 10 minutes late but still well worth the effort to join in. I will try to get there next week too.
That discussion was not resolved to its conclusion. Too many sidetracks were taken but as a topic to get us started it fulfilled its purpose.
Well I discovered a new species called Beefwood, which sounds pretty versatile. I think the only timber that was mentioned twice was Tasmanian Oak (Yvan and myself), so does that mean it wins? [emoji3]
Meeting tomorrow? If so, is there a theme?
Regards
Paul
Yes!
Tomorrow's topic: If a fairy could grant you one woodworking skill tomorrow night, what would it be, and why?
It could be to saw straight, sharpen well, set up a band saw or anything else you wish you were able to do well.
Open to all who would like to join.

Hoping to join in from the office.
If Paul doesn’t have an issue with me sitting in the office [emoji6].
But if I don’t, my wish (How to finish projects in a meaningful time lol)
Cheers Matt.
If I am there I will be 10 minutes late again. I don't believe in fairies.
Sorry I missed it today - it was because all the fingernail technicians had to close down again due to the covid restrictions.
Naturally that necessitated an emergency detour to Bunnings on the way home for a litre of acetone.
Can it really be another week already?
Having too many projects on the go at once was a recurring theme on last week's chat, so this week's topic is: If you could lay out one of your projects in your workshop for the elves to complete during the night whilst you slept, which would it be?
As always, everyone and anyone is welcome to join in.

I have a fighting chance of being there (possibly a few minutes late) this week. :2tsup:
Unfortunately I have no resident elves in my shed, but i do occasionally get visited by a grey cat called Mango who lives diagonally across the back corner behind the shed. I encourage Mango to visit because he crawls around under my shelves discouraging the mice. He usually nicks off as soon as I start a power tool so I doubt he would have the skills to finish any projects for me.
I’m a unknown for tomorrow,
Cheers Matt.
See you all at midday.

Paul
Apologies all, as I'm walking in the alpine winter, I won't be around this Friday.
Atop Mt Field at the moment, first bit of phone reception in two days, so thought I'd better update you all now.

so, not cold at all huh.
So our fearless Zoom leader has gone walk abouts.
I suppose I can wait till he gets back !!.
Cheers Matt.
Couldn't make it this week so next week suits me fine.

Paul
Tomorrow's details below:

I will probably make it but a few minutes late is likely.
I’m 50/50 an Praying hard I can make it.
Cheers Matt.
Next week is good
Hi All,
Tomorrow's topic is about the challenges of dust management. It doesn't matter whether you keep a Chinese fan handy in your apron pocket to blow away the dust, or have a huge ducted cyclone setup, I'm sure we all have that one tricky operation we hate doing because it throws dust everywhere. What is your dust generating kryptonite? Perhaps someone will have a solution. Feel free to share a photo or two of the issue you face.
Any and all are most welcome to join in.

Just saw this and would like to have joined in on this but have something else on .
Maybe another time?
Lance,
Just a big thumbs up for doing all the organising of these Friday’s catch ups.
Much appreciated Matt.[emoji106][emoji106]
Yes thanks, what is next weeks topic? free wood?
Hi All,
Here are the details for tomorrow's chat. I will be travelling so won't be there, but I'm sure the rest of you will have an enjoyable time regardless. First one to respond can nominate a topic.

I can’t make tomorrow’s meet,!!
So don’t think it right I call a topic,
Cheers Matt.
I hope to be there. I just have to wake up in time!
In the absense of Matt, who was first up, (I didn't think you were allowed to go anywhere) I would like to hark back to Pagie's suggestion (post #68) of free wood. More specifically, from where do you source your timber?
Hope to see some people there tomorrow as conversation with myself tends to be limited, biased and self centred.
Regards
Paul
I may make it, probably a bit late - seems like my standard response.
Lance - I have not forgotten my photo mission - working my way towartds it.
Lance
I had meant to say it just won't be the same without the "anchor man."
Regards
Paul
It was a good hook up. One new visitor(to me ). We managed without Lance, but will be good to see him back.
Funny thing was that the session ended at the 40 minute mark as normal except that it said the session was ended because the host didn't show up!
:D
Regards
Paul
Hi All,
It sounds like last week's prattle was a good topic, and sorry I missed it. I could certainly do with more low cost or free wood.
This week's topic: If you had the opportunity to run a half day workshop for fellow weekend warrior woodworkers, what knowledge or skill would you share. You don't have to be an expert, think "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king".
Even if you have just started woodworking a month ago, your topic could be: "Creative ways of transporting timber in a Fiat 500".
So, get your thinking caps on, and tell us what you've got.

P.S. I'm a little unsure how I should take Paul's Anchor Man label ;)

Lance
That is a most interesting subject that should appeal to the charlatans and cognoscenti among us. Regrettably, or in my case maybe luckily, I can't make tomorrow. I wll look at the thread later to see what jewels were discussed.
As to how you should take the "Anchor Man" label, make sure you remove it when swiming.

Paul
How to split wood with a froe.
usual story - will try to make it, but probably will be late.
Lance, my photo mission is coming closer to reality. only a few items left between me and the dust cyclone now, so soon.
