So wenisit?:U
Well this thread has had a good run of interest
I am available most times.
You will want to think about if it going to have food (BBQ, finger food, ect) and how you want to fund it.
I will offer that I can stop off on the way up the hill and pick up supplies, if this helps out.
Also pick up any who want a lift who along my way.
Russell
Hi Brett
I'll be over in Sydney on the weekend of 16th/17th of February so, if it happens to fall on that weekend, I'd love to come along if it's OK
Cheers
Geoff
Hints for Forum Get Togethers.
Set a date. Not everybody can make it and you can't please everyone.
Don't cater. This is not a dignitaries BBQ with silver service. It is a backyard BBQ and should be kept casual. If you want formal you may as well go to a restaurant.
Everyone brings their own lunch. The host only has to supply the venue, a BBQ (preferably a big one) and tea, coffee, sugar and milk. A lot of that is needed if they are normal woodies.:D An urn is handy.
If it is just a yakfest no other planning is needed, if it has a theme or demonstration get people to bring along an object pertinent to the theme. Be prepared that you could get inundated with stuff and not everyone will get to show or talk about what they have.
Bring a chair.
Its interesting to see the wide range of people already considering attending Bret so many into woodworking and/or metalworking of such wide varieties a vast conglomerate of knowladge
I think someone already said some may be away on holidays. I wonder about such as
Alexs
Ian
Ruddy
Hardenfast
Colbra
Christos
Edited to add
Rogera...........Sydney's Allan from Wallan always good with jokes often better than Allan's (sorry Allan)
There of course could be so many more if your place can handle it.
Plenty of decent restaurants in Katoomba which could cater for 50 to 100 people at reasonable group rates even if it was just for lunch, no clean up after.
Lets hope that fire or water restrictions are not imposed on the day
I like 's suggestions.... It has the KISS factor about it
Russell
Ok, a date:
Sunday 10th Feb
from 10.30 until we run out of yak (the verbal kind)
Bring what you want for the BBQ
BYO liquids
Bring a collapsible chair
We will supply:
Salads
Coffee & Tea
A cake (if you're good)
An address (I'll send a PM in due course)
No theme, but maybe you want to bring a small tool or two for discussion. Something that's hard to get, rare, super-useful, or that you have made yourself.
Apologies to those for whom the date is unsuitable (I'd love to catch up with Geoff Sims and Dai Sensai).
Anything I haven't covered?
Bret cross me off the list grandsons birthday.
Hope it is a great GtG a meeting of minds.
Hi Brett,
If your numbers allow I will make it up there. It's actually not far 'as the crow flies'.
Cheers,
Nathan.
That's a shame Wheelin. Oh well.
Nathan - noted.
Brett
I have a trip planned down to the Hunter Valley at the end of January. Exact dates are not settled and are a little flexible, although I have to head back to QLD no later than 27/1/13. If the date is around end of Jan I would be keen to come along. Would a QLD drivers licence and a Oz passport be sufficient to gain entrance?
In any event it looks as though you are going to have a good attendence. They are coming out of the woodwork .
Regards
Paul
Errr(n), see post #55. That would have been good Paul. Perhaps the Hunter chaps should do something.
Brett, count me in for Sunday 10th February.
Permission has been granted by the powers that be.
Hi All
Can't make it on the 10th for the gathering but I still would like to catch up with some of you. I'll be in Sydney from 15th to 20th so hopefully I can work something out. I'd love to meet up with some of those in the CNC fraternity too.
Cheers
Geoff
Ooops. That will teach me I made a facetious remark from page 3 and then went from there. As I didn't look at page 4 I didn't realise a date had been set :-.
Don't worry about bringing it forward for me  :D.
I think it will be a good day.
Regards
Paul
I think the date suits me, so please PM details, we'll then just see what pans out.
I will have my little travelling kit in trailer - little lathe with accessories like ball turning and thread turning stuff (made on a metal lathe :U), plus some casting stuff I think (still deciding if I have room).
Happy to just chew the fat and meet forumites :2tsup:
Cheers
ps I will be calling in on Wood Nut the week prior at Clarence Town, so hopefully catch up with more forumites then
Even though I'm "stuck" on the Gold Coast without my diary at the moment, the 10th works for me.
I have contacted my sister re- staying over for a week or so now I just have to work towards the February date.I should be able to make it
I was thinking we should display our Forum names with our real names as well.
Goodo Rod. Yes, I was thinking the same.
Geoff I am free over that time if you are willing to go out to west side of Sydney. You can have a look at my small mill and the plans for a half sheet router I am going to build soon. Let me know if you can make it.
Russell
Ps If any one else want to tag along it's ok with me.
Hi Brett,
As you have probably noticed in this thread, Dai Sensai is staying with me in Clarence Town (Hunter Valley/Newcastle) prior to heading off to the mountains. I have taken his hint and organised a GTG at my place on the Saturday (9th) - only day available.
I plan to come to yours on the Sunday with NCArcher.
Cheers,
Paul
:roflmao: We should take this gig on the road then - waiddaminit, it's already on the road.
Hope it's not too late to pencil in Skew's_Girl and myself?
(I've been a bit remiss in catching up here lately... too busy trying to move the shed from Vic to up here armed only with a s/wagon and a 4x4 trailer. :C Anyone got some spare power points? Or clamps? :innocent: )
It'd be good to see a few new faces; I suspect my "old" GTG crowd were becoming weary of hearing the same ol' turning tales from me. :D
All good Skew
Kewl. Will supply the "I can't believe it's not Baklava." :D
I think I might there fore I think I can.
It is over a month away and at the moment I am free to make it to the mountains. Of course I thought that I was free this weekend but that changed when I was needed for work. :)
I'll be there.
Ross
