Finally, to satisfy the curious.
I bought the lathe and accessories for $650.00.
It has now been sold for the asking price,(which was $3500) without any haggling, by someone who was not offended by my words. (9.30 a.m.)
Proving that, something for sale is worth what someone else will pay for it
(regardless of the asking price) if someone paid $3500 it should read ,proving that, there,s a sucker born every minute

I suppose the question that I would ask is how much would the lathe have cost to buy new? If the buyer has saved a favourable amount of money then it isn't so important that the seller made 500+%profit providing that the machine was in good nick.
Of course the manner of which the original ad' was worded, and wether or not people are using the forum purely as a salesyard is a different argument alltogether.

$5 to 6000 new, $3500 2nd hand is the price of a VL300, not a VL850.
VL850 are discontinued & they were selling for about $1K (2nd hand) 3 or 4 years ago.
If somebody paid $3500 for a 2nd hand VL850, I have a 1960 Model Series IIA Landrover that I'd like them to have a look at. :D
