I have used a system like johnnybegood for years. A bit of food colouring and a bit of kitchen detergent to reduce surface friction of the tube. Use a 3/8 pipe and it gives quicker readings than a smaller diameter. I first saw a one man level used when my pool was installed and it is level according to the contents!
As anyone used this type of water level - if so is it worth the $120 price tag?.

That happens if you use too small a hose as the skin tension on the surface of the water at each end of the hose can really mess things up.Quote:

I am in the process of making my own water level but using 9mm OD and 6mm ID clear tubing, which is the same as used on the Zircon water level shown on my previous post on this thread:(. So Bob you think that this equipment would be useless with such a small diameter?. My concern is when we had our house reblocked 6 months ago the company we hired to to the job used only a homemade instrument with the same diameters:eek:.
AD, I just looked in the white pages and noticed a company called kaylock (with a c in it) located in Clifton Hill - is that the one you mean?.
Once I have made my water level I will put some images on this thread to get the experts opinions.

Although I've been told I have the gift of the gab, I wasn't able to purchase the water level from Kaylock's. In order to purchase items from there you need 3 written references and a business card.Quote:

Kaylock seemed more than happy to sell to me direct - I do have a business as ther local rep in Tassie didn't stock the item. Kaylock themselves didn't stock the pro level so in the end I purchased from Zircon USA direct.
Zircon still sent it via Kaylock though.
I think it is absolute rubbish that a wholesaler cannot retail to the public, particularly when a $40 item is being re-sold for $120.
Did you call them before you went to ask if they would sell to you?

that's why I buy all my Festool consumables from the US as the local importer rips us all off. Surely businesses would prefer 30% mark up to no sale at all - I can't figure it out. I think that a lot of businesses don't realise how easy international e-commerce is to the Australian consumer.
