Hey Cliff, you won't need any beer, the cyclone will blow some of the green stuff from the Daintree down your way :U.
Stay safe Mate.

Stay safe Cliff! Hopefully it drops to a cat 1 quickly.
Still here, haven't lost power yet.
I just had a chance to get down to the creek & take a few pics.
The waterfall is roaring & the water is very red.
Looks like it has jumped the mountains & now it is going to make a run down the coast.
Still here.
Overcast, light variable westerly breeze, no rain.
I haven't heard from Jim either, I sent him a message Friday night & haven't had an answer.
Well what a fizzer. Almost no wind and only 160mm over two days. No damage and for that we are grateful. In fact I spent the day in the shed working on a segmented bowl. The eye passed between Mareeba and Cairns. It is only 20K between Cairns and Mareeba. The rain we did get fell vertically all day, not horizontally as expected. Will admit to more than a little concern when it was declared a category 5 storm. By the time it got here I reckon it was a very low category 1 cyclone. Still, I am not complaining. Probably just as well, I don't have any storage left for fallen timber. :D
Jim
I checked up on family & a few woodturner mates around FNQ, all OK with a similar story as Jim to tell. Innisfail & Mission Bch got off damage free. Here in Townsville TC Ita came and went pretty fast. All we got was a little rain and wind to 55kn for about 3 hours. The tail end of TC Yasi did far more damage to us than the sideswipe we just got from Ita. Ita brought down a few palm fronds, a 90mm dia limb off the Cadaghi on the footpath and a lot of leaves to clean up. We drove up to Kelso to check on Mum - you wouldn't even pick that we had any wind a couple of hours after Ita had passed town. After Yasi we spent two days on a chainsaw just cleaning up our street.
We got about 230mm out of it... still getting an occasional sprinkle & one good shower tonight.
We did get wind, from a couple of different directions, it bought down a bit of dead wood, a few branch tips & one tree fern frond.
Went for a walk this arvo, neighbours lost a couple of branches, nothing big, you could pick them up with one hand & throw them over the fence.
I'm glad that I don't have a clean up like we had in other cyclones.
you was lucky this time guys. Glad there were no major dramas:D
Pete
We just got power back tonight at 6 pm.
Only out a few days (much better than last time)
Worst of it was, the near new (Honda EU20i) generator decided to fail yesterday.
Lucky the neighbors have a big old (ancient) generator that we could plug our fridge into, so no lost food. (I like hot beer, but only after drinking all the coldies before they go hot)
A lot of people here lost fridge~freezer contents though. In our street, 4 people (5 counting me) had generator failure, and the servo lost their generator so no one could get fuel.
Makes you really appreciate electricity.

How did Wonga Bch fare & the old Pinnacle Village VP? I saw images of Newell Bch which seems to have lost a few coconuts and other trees.
That sux. We didn't loose power this time, lost it in Larry & Yasi for nearly a week.
