Every day I see people engaging in all sorts of activities in their cars, shaving, doing their hair, picking their nose etc. Also, most 4wd have 2 way radios and people use them all the time too, should we then ban all of these activities too?

Acording to some 'tests', using a hands free phone is the equivalent of driving at .05 or there abouts.

I am getting fed up with the line from Police that is becoming increasingly common - 'If you don't have a video we won't investigate or take action'. Absolute BS. I spent nearly 30 years working in the Police & that is sheer laziness on the part of the Police on duty.

While I have heard that some magistrates refuse to convict for any offence without live footage (there have always been magistrates who refuse to take action unless it is in favour of one of their relatives or friends) - too many US TV shows where everything conveniently occurs in front of the local TV camera man & there is always a truck load of 'forensic evidence' which is never challenged may be one reason - the Police should at least take statements from the victim/s, witnesses and interview the offender with a view to prosecution. If there is any doubt they should prepare a 'brief' and submit it to their internal review section for a decision on wether to take it to court. Even if no action is eventually taken, it should make the offender aware that their actions are getting them into trouble & to pull their head in.

I kind of agree with the objection to the photographic evidence only line. If the culprit is using a mobile phone that is all the evidence that is needed. The time is documented. The only way it could be disputed is if there are two people in the vehicle which there was in the original scenario.

Perhaps I have seen one too many cop program on TV :rolleyes:.

i got fined ,and wasnt even on the phone
cop refused to check the incoming out going call register , just fined straight out ,. 2 coppers say i was on my phone ,

they dont care about any phone you give them , there excuse was there could be 2 phones

Interesting.

I'd like to put that to the test as I don't normally have a mobile with me. Must try driving scratching an itchy ear singing along to the radio :). I suspect it has become an easy way for the police to identify to their superiors that they are doing their job.

Having said that I think it is an issue driving while talking into the phone, particularly for an extended period (just the law of averages and the increasing absorbment into your conversation.)

In our neighbouring town a young girl was killed when an oncoming driver crossed to the wrong side of the road and caused a head-on. The driver in the other car had been talking on the mobile.

Funny you should say that. I thought it was just me. SWMBO has been away for a week and I thought my recollection of the fair sex must have let me down. Not that this specimen looks fair, even allowing for her dark hair.
