Here goes the thread diversion:
The last car "owned" by my wife was speed limited to 250k. Now all the time we owned it, we never hit the limiter... :D :D .
The standard tyres were worth something like $700 each at the time, and were very soft rubber and lasted about half a block.
All the stories about requiring Super dooper high speed tyres or your insurance will be voided are WRONG! I wrote to the insurer, asked them why I needed tyres capable of sustained 200kph driving when at best the speed limits are 110, and was given written assurance that I could use any lesser rating PROVIDED I didn't have an accident as a result of driving the car beyond the rating of the tyre.
Interestingly enough, there is little doubt that if one had an accident that involved those super speeds, one would not have to worry about a claim in the first place, but the insurer would not pay up anyway!
Cheers,
P (Who can't remember if they are V,S or H rated, but runs the lowest of them now too). :D
