Mine's got a proper bark on him. Make your Shepherd look behind him. But I must confess, he is fond of a chat with the other dogs at night. Having said that, he's not all that noisy. Visitors - he might give a woof but is more likely to just mug them for a cuddle. When I have a meeting here, the siamese starts at one end of the group, the dog at the other, and they just work their way around the group having a sook with everyone.

Ruddy dogs. Almost as bad as flamin' cats (not that I'd know, I've got a Siamese) :D

Hey silentC, why not a staffy... they are a big dog, in a small package. Great with kids and just love people to death :p

Staffords are very smart too and don't carry all that fur that comes with a shepherd ;)

I had one(now my parents, she got use to having 10acres) we call her OlFatdog... all 45kgs of her! StaffyXMastif 10yrs.

I had a bully staffy cross. She was a little ripper. Her name was Bear because she looked like one when she was a pup. Brindle coat with a white chest and paws. She was a bit funny with certain people - most people she would like but every now and then someone would come along that she took a dislike to and she would bail them up. Once it was a mother with her 5 year old kid - I found out later that they were Jehovahs Witnesses :D

I've floated that idea past the missus but she prefers big dogs and is a bit wary of bullies and the like. I know, I know...

There are small dogs and there are toys. Forget the toys, but when it comes to small dogs, the big word is 'convenience'. I can do everything with my little mutt that I could ever do with my big dogs, but I also get to do a lot more with him because of the size - I can't imagine taking a Rottweiler in a small boat would be much fun.

And believe me, a little mutt can be as big a deterrant as a big un - I had a Jack Russel cross that more than proved that. That mutt had a thing about pelicans. Many times he chased them out to sea and there were a couple of times when I kept losing sight of him in the waves he was that far out, just paddling and paddling. He got back one day so tired he was staggery on his feet. Sadly the vet had to send him to the great back yard in the sky where the pelicans can't fly and the cats are slow :(

Before the bully staffy cross I had a bully red heeler cross. He had no fear. I could throw a stick as far as I could out into pumping surf and he would charge out and get it, over and over. A few times I thought I was going to have to go in after him but then he would appear with the stick in his mouth, half drowned. He'd drop it at my feet and look up and say "is that the best you can do?".

Once we were walking around the rocks and we came across a seal. Sting (for that was his name) looked at this strange looking dog with big eyes and no legs and the seal looked back at him. Then the seal barked and it was on. The seal leapt off the rocks onto a rock platform just above the surf and Sting went straight after him. The seal dived into the surf and I thought the bloody dog was going to follow him. Fortunately, he had enough sense that day not to. He stood there barking for awhile and then came back to me. He said "that was a bloody weird looking dog. Quick though..."

Thought I would post a picture of my Staffy cross. I don't know what the cross bit is but people will not come in the gate when they see him because the conatation of what Bull Terriers are.

When they do come in the gate he is all over them like a rash and just wants affection.

The only time he bailed anyone up was when an indiginous person came in off the highway at 9.00 pm one night and he was not going to let him in the gate. He just kept barking and growling and all the the poor guy wanted was some water for his vehicle.

He definately does not like other dogs. He doesn't have one ounce of fat on him and no loose skin that you can grab hold of. He is just one ball of muscle and my nephew reckons he is square like a brick and just as hard.

I bought him off a guy who came in off the highway desperate for some money for $30 as a 3 month old pup but by the time I had him microchipped, gave him his needles, had a grass seed removed from an abcess and registered him he cost me $500.

Could be a bit of Kelpie in there maybe? I love the way they sit. Mine used to sit with one leg underneath, on the upper thigh rather than her bum. Terrible posture!

I'm going to have to have another word with SWMBO.

Yes the guy that sold him to me told me but I can't remember.

That amuses me too the way they sit without their bum on the ground. Maybe it is because of all the muscles in their legs. They are as strong as a bloody ox.

Why not get his and hers dogs.

After all you'll have enough room.

I guy I used to work with had a Great Dane and his wife had a Chiuwawa and the Chiuwawa used to jump up and bite the Great Dane on the old fellow. He thought it was hilarious
