I just heard a health authority person from LA on NPR describing how a recent random set of COVID19 antibody tests in LA found that 1 in ~40 Angelingos have been infected.
This translates to ~8 million people across the US being infected (and that was about 2 weeks ago), compared to current testing which shows about 790,000 positives, ie 10 times more people are infected than are being detected.
This factor depends on how far advanced COVID19 has progressed in the community and how many tests have been. For countries like Oz and NZ it's thought to be much less than a factor 10 but until extensive testing is undertaken we won't know.
