Here it is, from the Garret Wade book of Woodworking Tools.
Silent, you were closing in, ask a question.
Pardon my lack of working knowledge but where does a sculptor's chisel come close to what seems like in essence a machinists vice?????
Mark
A former star of a cult sci fi TV show wrote a children's book in 1999 in which the main character came to an unhappy end in a tree. Who was it and what was the title of the book?
Mark,
Mainly, both the chisel and the 'chops' are used by a wood sculptor.
This is what Garret Wade has to say about it.
"A vice which was designed for the woodcarver is the Scopas Chops. It is made of wood, with deep jaws and protective leather strips, and has a steel screw and nut and another screw which passes through a hole in the bench top to secure the vice."
I flick passed to Silent because the topic had gone on for a day and he was
homing in on it.
I suspect the Scopas Chops (possibly with a wooden screw) predates the machinists vice.
Alex
Many thanks
Its alway good to know more
Is anyone going to have a shot at the answer, or do I need to post a clue?Quote:

I can confirm that the actor/author in question does still have both his ears.

Who was Lady Creighton-Ward?
That would be Lady Penelope of the Thunderbirds.
I can't believe I got up at 6am every saturday morning to watch that show.
Oh well, here's a question even if i was wrong :D
What two dogs were bred to produce the kelpie?
A cattle dog and a border collie
Try again
Scottish Collies and dingoes. Not sure about dingoes, I think that might be a bit of a myth...
I'll give you scotish collies - as other than it not being "border" I'm buggered if I know for sure. You could also say two short coated pointed ear collies or two northern country collies from the rutherford blood lines.
from memeory, it isn't quite that simple. They originated from Collie breeds imported from Scotland and after a bit of cross breeding and interbreeding, the Kelpie was created. I've got one, and she's a pain in the **** !
We had collies when I was a kid and they were great working dogs but not good pets.
Who or what is QUEEG 500?
some bizarre card game ?
Was it the computer on the Red Dwarf?
Hmmm, seeing as it's nearly knock off time, I'll give you that one. QUEEG 500 was the "back up computer". In fact he was created by Holly, the real Red Dwarf computer, as a prank on the crew. "We're talking April, May, June and July Fools".
Lister had highly illegal learning pills. From whom and where did he get them?
Shane Warne's mum gave them to him, so he thought they'd be ok.
P
I'm inclined to give you that one - he almost certainly did indeed get them from Shanes mum :D:D:D
