Interesting .... I have been a member since 2001 and haven't received any spam mail at all .... the only emails from this board are to notify me of private messages from other members which I think I can turn off if I wanted to.
Yes, me to, no spam at all. As if this is the only place you get it from - get a life and wake up idiot - me thinks it's some sort of trick.
I get an email every time some reply to a thread that I've subscribed to. Every time I post to a thread I am automatically subscribed to that thread. I can turn this off if I want.
Grunt
You just need to ask Al what sort of sites attract spam
If they delete you as a member it has the effect of deleting all your posts and we would be deprived of reading your words of wisdom recorded on this board. :D :D :D Surely you wouldn't want us all to be deprived? :confused:Quote:

As far as receiving spam through this board you're talking cr*p, no one else has.
Peter.
No spam but lots of pancakes wrapped in foil. :D
I was going to write a reply but decided that you were too cretinous to understand anything I said.
please explain
Aren't cretins those little square bits of toast that they stick in your soup in the flash cafes??

:D :D :D
Same as above. I've been on this BB since 1999 and never once have I received any spam  . (I feel quite deprived !)
I do have a thingy in the system which filters all incoming stuff. I think it's part of Norton anti-virus. (But what would I know?  )
If you have a look at the only 2 other posts this goose has contributed to these forums (Nov. 2004) I think you'll see the massive contribution we are now going to miss out on in the future. A vast knowledge-bank of woodworking ideas, helpful posts and general brotherly type love is leaving. How can we go on ?
NEIL, IT'S TIME TO SHUT DOWN I'M AFRAID - ALL IS LOST !
(Titanic theme playing in background...........wipes a tear from the keyboard, goodbye all.....'*sob*)

qyn,
Change your name to Kenmill. That ought to do it!

Boys, Boys, Boys, I urge you to be nice to gyn, he may be everything yu say he is, a goose, a crouton, and much more........but remember.......HE IS OURS ;) :p .
As a work mate of mine constantly reminds me.."every village needs an idiot", I have no idea what he is refering to?
I just had a thought ( I promise it will be my first AND last for the year ;) ), why dont we all give gyn a greenie to show him/her/them/it that we all care what he/she/they/it has to say and that we forgive him/her/them/it for a moment of insanity
Oi! The village idiot's job is MINE  I spent months ... well, weeks ... well, days ... errr, nanoseconds wangling it away from Doorstop.Quote:

In this forum it should be 'a few teeth missing on the saw blade' ;)
Not the sharpest chisel in the box

That explains a few things.......

Thankyou for all your welcoming and caring messages. I never received any spam until I joined this website and you may all be right that this is not the source. But I do not want to be a member even though I think this is a wonderful source of info - that is why I joined in the first place. I do not change my favourable opinion of the website despite the derogatory comments of many of the posters - I guess you are defending this great website and (if this is not the source and therefore I am wrong) rightly so.
As stated, I tried to contact the administrators 3 times to no effect and hoped this message would delete me and remove this message before the supposed offence I have caused would occur. I never intended to offend anyone here and regret that offence has been taken. I have removed myself from every other forum I have joined and the spam continues (I take every other precaution in other internet use), removal is just is not an option here.
I did not want to change my email address but that is what I now will do.
Take care and in future try not to be too harsh in your judgements as I was not intentionally denigrating this website or it's participants.
qyn,
I have read your post ....... but i have to say just because you delete forums doesnt mean thet the Spam will stopQuote:
I have removed myself from every other forum I have joined and the spam continues
once those people (i use the term people loosely ) have you email they never stop
so you see blaming this forum is the wrong thing to do ..... i am sorry it has made you resort to this form of action as i have never had spam from the site
but i suppose i do have a spam filter
most spam is generated by programs hitting sever by sever so you will never be trully save
Lucas gets down from his soapbox
I have a number of email addresses. I've gotten spam for an email address that I've never used. The bastards will get you no matter what you do.

Peter.
Instead of changing email addresses, why not try mailwasher (free) and change from Outlook Express to Thunderbird. That solution has cut out most of it for me. mailwasher bounces moist of it back automatically. If you use the internet, even a new email address will eventually get out there.
Jees! get over yerself. Or buy some looser fitting underware - you seem too up tight.
And on another note since you have responded with the why me... You started this with your original ignorant (and no I chose ignorant purposely not to insult) demanding post.
Hmmm I'm being a bit abrasive - I better take another haldol or 2... maybe 3.
Don't know where you are sending your emails but none have ever arrived at the administrators. Probably disappeared into the spam filter.
Just exactly what sort of spam are you receiving?? I'll bet it's mostly and not woodwork related.
NO SPAM ORIGINATES FROM THESE FORUMS. All information gathered for the purpose of membership and management of these forums is kept encoded and in the strictest confidence. Unless you have asked for your email address to be made public (which you haven't) no one can access it. So it is impossible for any spam to have originated from this site or any of its members.
You would probably do well to invest in Ad-Aware SE Pro and get rid if the trackers that are most likely abounding in your computer and sending out info to hundreds of spammers. Keep away from sites and almost any site with pop ups.
I will not delete you as a member as it completely disrupts all threads you have participated in I will however ban you as a user if you wish. This will leave your posts in tact. If you do not wish to be banned speak now or forever hold your piece.

I think that should be "peace" Neil. Holding his piece may be the reason he is so unhappy. It might be a very small piece.
No, no, no. Neil was referring to the piece of wood he whops himself on the head with before going to bed of a night.
Richard
Qyn,
Why dont you post up an example of this spam complete with expanded header information and maybe we can help you with your problem.
Martin
Nope, Neil had it right. :DQuote:

I to have never received spam from anywhere. I also have a spam filter. I do not know how you got spam, but maybe as a hint you shouldn't sign up to so many sites...
With your email address proudly on display at the bottom of your posts I wouldnt be surprised if within a few weeks you start getting a torrent of spam. Youre a brave man.Quote:
