What's the most interesting thread?

This is just a test to see if this is a viable option to the current arrangement for the Free Draws (see here ).

Aren't you chasing your tail trying to identify the most popular thread.

The most popular thread in a month will have the most new posts per month.
Doesn't forum software statistics show each threads number of new posts each month?
Even the server software should show those statistics

Statistics will not prove what is 'popular' .

I follow some threads because they interest me , but I do not post in them every time I have a look
Some I look at to see what they are about , but do not post in at all.

machines cannot gauge sentiment

I didn't vote for any of them because most threads are of interest at different times to me and the intensity of interest changes during the life of the thread.

Some start out a bit ordinary and develop into a fantastic thread whereas others start out with a bang and end in a fizzle with most between these extremes.

Many people on the board have their own area of interests and probably don't look at threads outside their interests. For example, I rarely look at dizzy threads and their little brother pen turning threads.

No doubt people with an interest in these forms of woodwork find many of these threads of utmost interest. Others like myself might find darksider threads or cabinet type threads of utmost interest.

How could you determine the most popular thread? A simple but less reliable method might be compare the number of those reading or contributing a particular thread.

For example: If 90% of darksiders on the board thought that a thread about a plane was fantastic and 30 darksiders voted for that thread, is that more popular than a turning thread where only 40% of turners on the board thought it was fantastic however the 40% of turners might equate to 400 board members?

I don't think you can determine the most popular thread.

Not looking for popularity, a thread doesn't have to be popular to contribute in a meaningful way.This is not a real poll, just a test to gauge response to alternatives to the free prize draw system. Please read the first post and follow the links if you're unsure of what this thread is about.

BTW, the only way there would be a rats ring option is it the thread was called Rats Ring :D:D:D

I don't see what's wrong with the current system, except I haven't won anything :U . And if it ain't broke why bust a gut at other alternatives. What Woodborer wrote a while back about personal interests etc. is very good point. :shrug:
