Bit confused so hope you can help ...
The instructions on the can say it can be used on the handles of food implements, while some of the notes posted about its use on the web do in fact include reference to its use on food implements.
I'm turning a padauk platter, and have found in the past that using cooking oil to be a slow process.
What do you think?
Cooking oil can be far more toxic than most other finishes. I would be more worried about that than the rustins.
Why don't you contact the Australian agent for Rustins, Len Smith he's somewhere in Melb. I'm sure someone who knows will point you in the right direction.
Just don't believe all he tells you about other finishes. Especially anything made by U-Beaut, which by the way is all completely food safe.

I emailed Rustins a while ago and asked them about the use of their product on a chopping board. They said that the oil has been certified safe for childrens toys (even with the occasional chewing), but isn't certified safe for use with chopping boards and the like.
The reason for this was that they hadn't gotten around to geeting their food safe certificate.
In the end the choice is up to you, but I figure if it's 'chew safe' it should be fine.
