deciphering span tables

I am designing a near flat roof (3deg.). It appears from the timber manual that I have to look up the Roof Beam table instead of the Rafter table (for the rafters??). This seems a bit counter intuitive, so I thought I would check here for confirmation. I can't post the diagram but its at the top of Figure 2.1 if you have the national timber framing manual.
