couple of slate questions

hi guys, just wondering about slate... im looking to buy some that ranges from 7 - 15mm thick and is very nice color etc, and im also looking at some that is a pretty uniform 12mm thick. Im wondering does the thickness have anything to do with the quality? Is the more uniform thickness a better quality slate? Also, how do i go about recycling the slate i have here? I have gotten it up off the floor but am wondering how best to clean all the glue off to use it again elsewhere or sell it etc thanks any and all zong
