Hi WW.
Here in America we call them grass trimmers. although whipper-snipper sounds classier.
There are different diameters that can be had depending on the machine...best to use what is recommended by your manufacturer.:U
Thanks Aussie. Ours is purple, so I guess that's significant then.
Thanks Ed. The handbook is in A Very Safe Place, hence my query. :U
If the whipper-snipper (for Poms - strimmer) is electric, the line is likely to be 1.6mm - the last lot I bought was purple.. Petrol engine driven versions often have thicker line.
You could look for the booklet on the manufacturer's website.
There's also the straight round line and the square corned line which cuts more efficiently. :2tsup:
Thanks chaps!
there are many types of line.
round
square
spyral
oval
triangle
and the untimate serated (see pic) this is what i use lasts twice as long as all other line and cuts mutch better. its made in france and i buy 400m roll at a time.
all are avalable in diferent diamiters form 1.5mm up.
its a stihl mate.
My whipper snipper is mostly still too.
I always thought you called them weed wackers a la Tim The Toolman.
The best one I have found is called Diamond Edge usually only available from certain Mower Specialists.
I find it doesn't break off even when running along a rabbit proof netting fence and that seems to be the hardest test on any line.
The cheap ones from Big W and Kmart are crap.
teh stuff i use is called flexiblade it is better than teh diamopnd edge i upgraded after getting a sample peice off my supplyer.
its hard to come buy thow not many places stock it.
