Internal Stairs where to put them?

I have ordered a book recommended by someone here Queensland Timber on stairs and flooring, cant wait.

I am looking at putting internal stairs in somewhere and come up blank on where they should go, whats more important, against an outside wall, opening at the bottom in the room underneath?
