Good Evening Friends,
What is meant by the term casehardening?
Respectfully, :)
That would be the callous that forms on your forehead when you keep falling down after drinking a case of beer.
In metalworking, it's hardening the outside of an iron piece by heating it in a carbon-rich medium such as leather or sawdust. In timber, its the outside hardening of kiln-dried timber while the inside is still softer & moister.
Generally caused by transporting uncovered timber on open trucks.
Good Morning Friends,
Case hardening is a defect in the lumber caused by improper drying. Case Hardening is caused when a board is dried too fast. the outer layers in a case hardened board are compressed while the inner layers are in tension.
Thank you for your support.

No,no,no. thats how they season the timber, delivering it to your job on the truck. :D :DQuote:

Once upon a time I lived near a pine mill. After the timber was milled, they kept the moisture content constant by spraying it with water. Nowdays, they wrap it in plastic before it gets a chance to dry out. Is it any wonder it does what it does!
