Timber floor & carpet strips
Hi troops I need some advice :D
Have pulled up carpet & underlay in house, have hardwood flooring butted & nailed down (not tounge n groove). Timber is as supplied from timber yard back in the late 50's I guess, crayon mathmatical calcs here & there, no sanding marks, not sealed, very dry & brittle grain in some strips.
Will get a tradie to sand & seal, cause I know I'll stuffup that part , so I'm doing a basic prep for his stage..
Questions.....
1. Laminated ply carpet gripper strips are used on surrounds near skirting, the nails are about 3/4 inch long, ribbed & rusty. Most pull out OK, but some are causing the timber to pull up in splinters when removed.
Is this a drama? or will the sanding / sealing fill the gaps ?
2. Rusty underlay staples..........:C...............Gotta be an easy way to pull em out :?
Using multigrips & pliers but most snap off leaving a sharp bit in the timber, sometimes so short I can't get it out without damaging the wood, tried banging em down, but worried the sander will be hitting them?
Plus my hands are beginning to cramp up from this process :-
Any help much appreciated
Cheers
Cam
