Hi all,
just a quick question. I am about to sand some pieces I ahve jsut finished for my cabinet and I read in this forum that some people sands up to 1200 grit. it seems 240 is not enough according to one of the previous post.
What would be the steps ?
I have to start with 80, then 180 and after that ?
what are the increments ?
would you jump from 180 to 240 then from 240 to 1200 ? or what intermediate grit would you used ?

I would go, 120, 240, 400, 800, 1200 'cause thems the ones that are easiest to buy.

well i used to go 40, 150, 240, 400, 600 Then seal.
if it was a commercial order it was only ever initially sanded to 150. Sealer and final coats were only sanded with 240.
If your surfaces are flat, finish straight from a plane. If the surfaces are curved, use a spokeshave, followed by a scraper, then 400, 600, shellac seal. Done.
Try to sand the finish only, not the wood.
