Passage Way Thingamee

Hi

Designing our extension and need advice on some way of connecting the two buildings.

We have a 1940's weatherboard cottage and I want to add a new 'wing' off the back. This will be half to 2/3rds of a floor (900 to 1500mm ish higher havent decided exactly) higher than the original. It will also be about 2m back.

This leaves me with the need for some sort of weatherproof passage/connector to link them.

What would this thing be called (I could google it then) and any suggestions on how you would construct it. I was thinking steel frame with glass walls (double glazed perhaps) and some sort of roof.

Any ideas?
