taping up wires

I am re-plastering a room which has power points.
I need to remove these points to take of the old plaster.
Can i turn off the power at the board and place tape around the exposed wires so they dont touch each other and aren't bare?
I will probably get new wiring done but at this stage the plaster needs to go first
