Merry Christmas and bugga! all at the same time to ya.
Depending on what you feel is the value of the gift is will dictate the method of repair. By value I don't necessarily mean money, it could have great sentimental value even though it doesn't have much monetary value...
Epoxy will work well as the ceramic surfaces are very rough which is what epoxy wants.
Don't use CA glue (especially if its the cheap crap from some Chinese import store like Super Cheat Auto or Sams Warehouse) if you want the fix to last any reasonable amount of time. It doesn't like heat or moisture.
Both methods will show the break.
If it has a high value to you you could source out a person that will fix it using ceramic which will be very long lasting and almost impossible to see but will cost a lot - relatively speaking.
Beware of using general grade epoxy as it softens with heat. With sufficient use, (other than for iced tea) the epoxy will fail eventually due to repeated heat cycling.
Thanks for the idea's and info
seems it will be a return if possible as another cup has been found cracked :~
LOML loves the set but it is obviously been damaged in transit.
