fixing compressed sheeting to bricks

Hi all i am putting compressed sheet 15mm thick onto an existing brick bbq to replace the old preparation area. Can you use a sand and cement mix to fix the new top to the bricks or is there other ways to fix the top on.it will be tiled later. thanks in advance for your replies cheers
