Dampness problems, solutions?

Hey all.

My first house is a lovely aluminum clad house that has a small dampness problem. The house was built in the 1950s as a fibro 3 bedder and since then it has been cladded but the air vents on the walls in the all of the rooms have been covered over with the cladding, therefore they don't serve any purpose.

I have a small dampness problem and was wondering whether the covered up vents would be the problem.

Do you think I could just drill holes or something similar in the cladding so that air gets through the vents, or would this not make much difference to the dampness problem?
