safe to divert evap aircon output to rainwater tank??

have an evaporative airconditioner and thought about how much water it wastes per hour and thinking can it be diverted into my rain water tank to it can be recycled?
will this work or is there something that prevents this working properly??
all the rain water is used for is the toilet, washing cars and watering garden.
