im from the us so when i say masonite im talking about the hardboard material used as the backing of old furniture and the tops of old drafting tables did this ever contain asbestos to anyones knowledge,thanks for any info you can offer up

In a word no. Asbestos is in quite a lot of fibrous cement products, IE: pipes, sheet, a form of corrogated roofing fibro, fibro sheet. A search with google will find most. Masonite is free from asbestos. Welcome to the forum

masonite is hardboard, composed of compressed wood fibre, usulay smoth finish one side and rough the other, commonly used as backing for the cheapes of furniture, flooring underlay and a variety of other uses.
it is a predecessor to MDF
fibro is a local brand for AC sheet and most ceretainly did contain asbestos up untill some time in the 80'S ( I think) in this country.
