Granite

Yeah yeah I know reno forum and all that but I really can't be stuffed...
Does anyone know what is suitable for sealing granite in a kitchen, it absorbs water quite nicely which concerns me as I have used some for the splashback behind my new stove.

Look at the paving/stone sealers in Bunnings. Bondal make a range of good water based products that are easy to apply with a basic garden sprayer (most suppliers have a pamphlet with the range and what they are suited to in). You need to consider the finsh you want, some have that wet look finish, others are natural. Either way i would do a test patch somewhere before you do the whole lot. There is also a range of solvent based sealers - harder to spray and generally give a wet look finish.

Just a little puzzled here. You say that granite absorbs water? If so, it's new to me. Or is it marble you are talking about?

When we did the renovation we were advised that granite had to be sealed about once a year. The cabinet shop offered some specific brands to use. We decided to install Corian as it was a bit less expensive.

I have recently installed a granite top on a vanity unit on the advice of friends. One is an architect and his wife is an interior decorator. They have used granite in their kitchen and on an outside bar b que without treatment. I had the granite installed by a specialist stone merchants, not a kitchen supplier, and they made no mention of granite needing any protective treatment.

From what I have been told including the stone merchant who installed the stuff you need to seal it , the lighter the granit the more it needs sealing , the almost black granite you can get away with every couple of years :2tsup:
