I wonder if this kind of thing has already been presented here?

Well, anyway, very useful thing especially for handling smaller bolts and nuts and when you have to extend your hand flat to bring the fastener etc. to it's place.

Cheap and simple. Made of duct tape to fit your preferred finger, and has a cutout for housing the pieces. Can be further improved with a small piece of magnet.

Can be stored easily in a pocket, can be squeezed, wrinkled, dropped, greased, chewed etc. and still works, unless totally splitted. Works in all conditions, fights against gravity, does not nag.

To prove its usefulness even further, Lee Valley has a commercial version called "Finger wrench". I prefer tape model, it does the same and fits perfectly.

Thanks guys, but I can't claim it as my original idea, the working principle of the thing is quite an old invention.

On the other hand, I have been so far the only one I know to use duct tape for it (That's why I was actually going to name this thread as "How to hold your nuts with duct tape", but decided to go for that other one, to protect the delicate reputation of us Finns).

You mean Finns have nuts and not finns but you need duct tape to hold em, I guess tape wouldn't stick to finns, but then dose it fall of your finger??? So why are you called finns and not nuts??

Claw Hama, that's a good question, but I'm afraid it has already bothered at least our neighbouring nations for some centuries. :D

Good (no, actually great) idea for starting a fastener in an awkward location.

Here's another for starting a screw or bolt in an awkward location, with no room for finger grip: Take a piece of card stock, such as a business card, large enough to reach into accessible territory, and drive the screw through a punched hole. Hold the card in the accessible region and drive the screw or bolt part way into the receptacle, but not tight. Tear away the card, and continue tightening. Automotive fasteners are notorious for this condition.

I have had a Snap On magnetic nutholder that clips onto your spanner for many years but Sumu your tape version that you put on your finger is realy good. Don't take any notice of my posting above. Sometimes I go off ona tangent, or two.

Joe, that thin card trick is top tip :2tsup:. I wonder if those laser copier transparents would be enough rigid for the mission as two layers? If the screw is through both, lower layer could be "drawn in" a bit so you could guide the small light weight fastener along an arc or something like that.

Yes a little crazieness keeps the world a more interesting place.

Ok next idea/tip use a large diameter plastic straw ie like McDonalds, tiny slit just in from the end and put your scew/nail through or small nut inthe end, may need a few creatinve cuts here and there.
