Recently watched a safety video on 'Stu's Shed' on Monday 5th May 2008

He explained the necessity for using a good leather apron when wood working.....
Any suggestions out there in woody land on reasonable aprons for this purpose ? Style, price range, who is likely to stock them, quality of leather etc etc.. ????

I've had a Maka 3/4 apron for about a year and can certainly recommend them. I kept telling myself I was not going to use it when welding but alas I have gone and done it and have a couple of little burn marks on it!

Just had a PM..... seems BOC Gasses stock good ones for around $25, will check those out and see how they shape up...... then compare....
Aberdeen as you have found out go for a chrome lether welders apron, very duarable and about 5 times less cost that than the fancy ones
China, excuse my ignorance of things leather other than horse saddles etc. but I assume they are the type used by welders.....
Checking them out tomorrow....thought they might be a bit tougher than suede and the like..... shiny and easier to clean ???
Aberdeen mo they are not shiny they are the made from the common "grey" leather that they make work gloves from, but they are very tough

We have the common grey leather ones at work. They have small arm openings that make me feel like a primary school kid with their pants pulled up under their armpits, and the belt/straps are all broken and fixed again with pop rivets which scratch my armpits and even so the straps are all about 10 cm too short for me.

I got a grey one from BOC Gases here in S.A..... only $26 and quite comfortable, not heavy and seems solid enough for what I need it for.
Beauty!! :2tsup: Sounds the goods and theres a BOC mob in Bunbury I got a drive coming!!... Cheers
