Fireplace

Hi all, I'm in the middle of restoring an old kitchen dual fireplace (one half had an old wood stove in it which I'm also restoring) and the other where there was an open fire for heating (I'm guessing)

The brickwork was painted over with a very thick paint, most of which I've chipped off. Some bricks still have bits of paint on them, and generally need cleaning up. Can anyone advise me about cleaning the bricks back to the original surface?

If you can seal your room up you can hire a small sand blaster from Kenards or Coats and clean them up. Otherwise its just paint striper I would think, also very messy.

Thanks for the suggestions, but sadly it's a newly fitted out kitchen, new floor, sanded and polished, so sand blasting is out. Paint stripper probably isn't required as most of the paint is off already, and the little that's left adds a bit of character - that's my laziness talking...any other ideas?

Leave it a part of the character and charm of a by gone era.
Do you have photos?

100mm Angle grinder with a wire cup brush.......it'll be a bit dusty though.

Heatgun and paint scraper. Don't use chemicals as they will stain the bricks.
