installing spikes onto bottom of speakers

Gday all, I have purchased a set of speaker spikes for the towers that I am building, but am unsure as to how I install them.

Any help I can get on this would be awesome! I have a dremel and a drill etc, but yeah, just not sure on the best way to install the spikes, if its just a matter of drill a hole into the base of the speakers and jam the gold thing into there? i'm not sure ><

I'll have a dip.

The gold thing is called a threaded insert. You will need to drill holes in the bottom of the speaker the size of the barrel of the insert, ie. large enough to screw the threaded insert into, but still leaving some "meat" for the threads to engage.

You then need to screw in the inserts. You do this by finding a bolt & nut the same thread size & pitch as the inside of the insert (looks like UNC from here). Run the nut up the bolt, screw into the insert, & lock the nut against the insert. Using a spanner on the head of the bolt, and ensuring you keep the insert square to the surface, screw it into the hole in the speaker til it's flush. Using one spanner on the bolt & one on the nut, squeeze the two together to unlock the nut from the insert, & back the bolt out.

Do the same with all four. Run the nut up the spike thread, screw it into the insert, & lock the nut against the insert to stop it altering position. I assume the little rubber franga goes on the bolt on the inside of the speaker.

gave it a go with a mate, unfortunately we are 1 size too small on the drill bits >< gonna have to get 1 size bigger from work tomorrow.

the gold insert actually has a hex key insert into it, so you can simply screw it in with a hex key. gave it a go but didnt want to go all the way in as I still have to veneer over the top of the holes.

(gonna drill all the holes out tomorrow and then veneer, drill the holes again through the veneer and then put the inserts in again.)

When you screw the insert in screw from the bottom of the speaker up . as the inserts are sitting on the legs in the first picture they are the wrong way around.
When you are screwing them in , if they become too tight screw them out and start again so that you get them in all the way with the flange on the insert flat and hard against the bottom of the speaker, those inserts as pretty soft and it is very easy to strip the hex section where the allen key goes. If you do strip the hex follow scooters advice using a bolt and lock nut
