In the US we have members of Congress, similar to your MP.
Sonny Bono, Cher's ex-husband was a congressman whos district included Palm Springs, CA. He was tragically killed when while skiing, he crashed into a tree some years ago.
This past weekend, driving back from the NASCAR race in Phoenix, a sign on the back window of a hard top Jeep read:

I laughed out loud. SWMBO didn't think that it was THAT funny, but then our politics are a bit different.
I heard he left quite an impression...
