floor finish?
Hi,
just wondering if someone can provide some advise? I've read plenty of threads about gaps in floorboards, but nothing is really concrete.
as per the 1st picture, I have some gaps in my floorboards. Pic 1 is about the worst of it. problem is that they are not tongue and groove, so i figure anything i put in will eventually breakdown and fall through.
pic 2 is 2x 12mm holes side by side to run electrical cable. what should i fill this with?
any ideas?
also, i'm just about to get my kitchen installed, so should i vanish the floor now or once they've finished?
sorry about all the questions. Really appreciate any advice.
Cheers,
Dusty

As far as the coating goes, I would sand first and put one coat on, then complete the cats after kitchen installation.

Big holes and gaps need to be plugged first or putty will drop through. If you can glue a piece of board or masonit on underneath it helps a lot.
If they are out of the way and won't be walked on the putty would probably hold.
If the gaps along the edges of boards aren't too bad, leave 'em and call it character. Much less ugly than crumbling putty.

thanks extra care.
the boards are in a high traffic area and i don't have access underneath them. so i guess leaving them "as is" is the best idea.
