whats the best way to get it off with out scratching glass

Soak with wet newspaper or towels.

Or try it on a hot day; or warm it up with a hair dryer. Softens the glue if it was stuck on. Take your time.

Haven't tried it myself but several people on an auto forum claim a hot air gun or even hairdryer works well.
