had a battern holder that was regulary blowing bulbs with not much use. i replaced the battern holder and put a new bulb in it and went on my merry way and then had the tennant tell me yesterday when i saw him in the street that it blew nearly straight away again.
anyone got any ideas on what this could be?

When working,
The Element is WHITE Hot and near melting,
small Jolts will break the element.
If the voltage is right and the globe isn't overheating (for example, in a small enclosure) then vibration is the most likely explanation.
Have you tried a power saver light?
try a rough service globe. as the name suggests they are intended for areas where usage will be rough. they'd be available at an electrical supply store, and wouldn't cost much more than a normal globe.
another possibility is that the voltage is way off... is the house near a caravan park or other area where there is seasonal or occassional heavy use. What can occur in these types of areas is that powercor steps up the voltage on the secondary side of the transformer to help still provide a regualated voltage at a higher load level. when this load dissapears, the voltage jumps up.

i would think voltage fluctuations or vibrations would be a likely cause but as i do the electrical work for all the houses in that street and about 80% of the town it seems like too much of a one off. tennant told thats he has blown two cf bulbs in the old fitting.
maybe the bulb i put in the new battern holder had had a few knocks in the back of the van and i was just unlucky. will put a new cf bulb in and if that doesnt work one of the rough service bulbs and let you know
