Mixing Colorbond and Zincalum

I'm wondering if you can hang Colorbond Guttering with Zincalum Hangers
Someone told me it creates electrolysis because of the dissimilar metals

Colorbond is compatible with zincalume as it's zincalume sheeting with an epoxy paint finish (from memory). Gal and zincalume is a real no-no due to electrolysis. Water running froma zincalume roof will rust out gal guttering in a very short time.

Like Mick says Colorbond has a Zincalume base coating anyway so it is compatible. As he said it is Gal or Zinc that is the problem with Zincalume. You can run water of Gal onto Zincalume but not the reverse.

I don't think they are galvanised, are they? Mine are zincalume. You can tell by the size of the spangle.

Yeah, I would say that if they are new, they would be zincalum. Unless they are really old ones or you specially ordered them.

I am advised the same as what others have stated, Mick, Bazza, Silent and Vern. That is, gernerally roofing and roof strapping is Zinc coated these days. Gal corrogated sheets dissappeared many years ago but the name still sticks, for anything silver and shiny.

However, even if the gutter hangers are gal, (which I seriously doubt) they normally only contact the painted surface on the colourbond gutter anyway, I think, (haven't had to hang a gutter for a while fortunately).

Gal is a zinc coating, zincalume is a combination of aluminium and zinc, I cant see any dramas with using zincalume brackets with colourbond gutter, as someone mentioned it is simply a zincalume product painted in pretty colours.

:U Oh I am tempted!!! If the gutter is connected to the storm water dont you need a licenced plumber!!!! :p

Any way as advised your zincalume hangers are fine for a colorbond gutter, (assuming the gutter has a zincalume coating.) If you dont protect them ie paint them then the gutter will fall off before it rusts out :D.
