In my bathroom, there are some areas where there are hairline cracks along the joins in the villaboard. There is also some movement of the villaboard at these places. I am guessing that the joins were either done previously with the wrong tape or even with no tape at all. I am now wondering how to fix up these cracks. Should I try to grind the joins back to remove the paint and some of the filler then reapply base coat and perforated paper tape?
The best method I have found to fix cracks in a finished join over a painted surface is to use wet and stick paper tape after giving the join a scrape back to get rid of any loose paint.
The most common cause for cracking in villaboard is the use of fibreglass tape. Nearly 100% of joins using fibreglass tape on villaboard will develope hairline cracks.
Paper tape is the only tape to use on villaboard.

Rod, I have tried buying wet and stick joint tape at a few hardware stores but no luck so far. Any suggestions where to try? Any online plastering suppliers you know of?
I doubt very much if any hardware store even knows it exists.
Go to any plasterboard wholesaler they should have it.
I don't know the local suppliers in your area but a quick look up under plasterboard in the yellow pages will find them.
Give them a call to make sure they stock it. Most will.
