New trick for this old dog

New for me - probably well known to others but just in case.........

While head down and A... up inside a cupboard trying to measure - the idea struck me.

Having recently pulled an old radio cassette to bits [great source of small bolts, nuts and screws] I kept the antenna. Being an oldie it is quite solid and firm to extend and retract.

I managed to make all of the measurements I needed, transferred them to my ruler and you know who was my uncle.

I have since dug out a couple of other antennas of varying lengths which should come in handy for all sorts of bits and pieces including checking the diagonals of boxes and drawers etc.

Sounds like a variation on the old bar gauge I think it was called.

Veritas make the connectors so you just add your own strips of wood. Will do outside measurements too if I recall.

Too simple for me to think of. I'm one of those fellas that always complicates/over engineers things. I'm trying to change as it can be b....y frustrating. Like the other day when I was trying to measure inside a cupboard because SWMBO wanted an extra shelf. Well after twisting the old bod in all directions and half standing on my head, sort of (you know what I mean) the job got done. Know how I'll measure next time.

No, only AM and FM:U

And only in the Southern hemisphere where we have to stand on our heads to take a reading ;-}
