I have an electric mower with a chinese outlet - it has been working fine (much to my surprise!) but now the prongs seem to have broken... disappeared into the housing. Can the mower be rewired to have an Australian plug to replace the broken chinese one? Any help much appreciated.... :oo:

well, from the sounds of it, the mower works on 50hz, 230v. so yes, the mower can be wired to suit an aussie plug. they're about $3 at bunnings, and come with full instructions on how to wire. the only thing, the colours on the wires may be different, so try taking apart the existing plug to find out which wire went to which pin and make the new one correspond to that. and then enjoy the remaining 50 minutes of the hour.

Just make sure you get the wires around the right way. It DOES matter and it will be dangerous, potentially deadly, if it's wrong.
No problem fitting an Australian plug though, as long as it's connected properly. I repeat my warning about the extremely dangerous situation if it's not right.
There's no law against rewiring plug in appliances.
