What do you call this kind of paving?

Basically its bitumen for the most part and edged with bricks.

Have scanned the services ads in the local rag but can't find anyone advertising it.

There are several homes in the neighbourhood that have had it done.

"Bitumen with brick edging"? :D
Don't know that it actually has a distinct name, be interesting to see if it does though.:rolleyes:

As far as I know, it's just asphalt or spray-seal paving. The brick edging is optional. Some people use sleepers, some use concrete, some nothing at all. Look under "Paving - Asphalt & Bitumen" in the Yellow Pages.

My parents have their driveway done like the picture above, their landscape contractor did the brick edging and then the asphalt company laid the bitumen up level to the bricks. Maybe able to take a picture this arvo if I have time to drop in.

I think there are two basic types of bitumen... spray seal and hotmix.

Spray seal is half the price and involves a spray of bitumen then gravel loosely spread and bitumen spray again.

Hotmix comes as gravel mixed with bitumen, hot from the plant. It is spread and rolled by rollers as it cools.

The spray doesn't look as good and they would probably end up spraying your bricks!

I work for the council up here in construction so i work with ashphalt a fair bit. The hot mix is a far better finish and it has a better life. The emolsion with loose gravel cover looks ok when done but you will continually be finding gravel in your grass etc.. near the drive.
