We are after any information on how to paint & finish kitchen cabinet doors! The look we are after is "modern, streamlined, semi gloss finish". Curious about the polyurethane or 2 pac finish (brands, how to do etc) as we are going to tackle this job ourselves. Any info most appreciated.
Just as a quick, off the top of my head guestimate, unless you already have an air compressor and a spray gun, some spray painting experience, woodworking tools such as a circular saw, router and sander, and somewhere to actually do it all...it will probably be cheaper to buy the doors from a cabinet shop!

Good Polyurethane & 2pak finishes are not only applied with specific spray guns but in a humidity controlled spray booth. They are also allowed to initial cure in the booth so they do not get contimanated with dust and kamikazi bugs that always want to swim in wet paint.
I am about to make a new kitchen and I am going to finish the doors and cabinets in a good quality oil based satin enamel in Antique White, possibly sprayed but most likely brushed with one of those fury pads. I did 2 wardrobes with a pad and I was really impressed.
One last thing, many, if not all manufacturers of polyurethane and 2 pak systems recommend the use of breathing masks with very specific cartridges.
Some of those finishes even require full body suits to spray.
And cetification of compliance to applicable standards to be allowed to use.Quote:

Bugs can be a problem but most of these finishes dry very quickly.
